Please help us preserve what is left of our Native American archeological sites in Southeastern Kentucky. We have worked for decades trying to preserve what we have managed to save. Our region has been decimated by mining (even though we support Coal Mining in this region it has been very destruction to our Native American archeological sites), Also grave robbing and looting is a very common practice in this Southeastern Kentucky region. Looting is big business in the region and while we have put a dent into the practice we have not stopped it. Since the economic disaster of 2009 looting and artifact selling has only increased.
Kentucky laws regarding archeological sites and Native American burial sites are for the lack of a better word, pathetic. We must protect our sites of interest ourselves. We have worked in the past with the Kentucky Archeological Survey and they are good people, they do what they can. We will be reporting all sites to the Kentucky Archeological Survey after we conduct an initial investigation. Reporting sites to the state helps us preserve these sites by making them known to the archeological authorities. We are not anti archeology like so many other tribal entities. We welcome the archeological authorities into our region. NOTICE: if the land owners do not wish for us to report the site we will NOT report it per the land owner's wishes.
Please fill out the form below if you have a site you wish to report. It does not matter if the site turns out to be non archeological and something natural, we welcome the information.
